acoustics – invisible quality

Acoustics is one of the least visible sciences. But superb acoustics liberate music and provide extraordinarily good sound. Acoustic perfection is only one of our goals, and our development process starts far away from laboratories. Our speakers are designed to work in the homes of the people who choose to live with them. A number of the world's leading acoustic engineers helped develop SA ranger. Their contribution may be difficult to see, but you can’t help hearing it.

In an ordinary home, both the floor and the ceiling have even surfaces, almost completely devoid of breaks or variations, but the room's furniture will affect the acoustics. The floor and ceiling surfaces normally generate a large number of reflections, which make the sound appear unnatural, while the furniture in the room and along the walls generates far fewer reflections – so SA ranger distributes less sound in the direction of the floor and ceiling than you are used to from other speakers. The tight design also helps prevent reflections from the front plate, while the relatively deep cabinet prevents sound reflections from the inside of the cabinet escaping through the membranes of the drive units. All of this is clearly audible, because the reduced reflections and the excellent acoustics really do make you feel close to the artists.

SA ranger can be positioned anywhere you want – although it does always pay to experiment a bit to get the best possible sound. And when you sit in front of the speakers, the sound comes straight at you at ear height, as if you were sitting right in front of the musicians.

In the early 20th century, the rise of industrialisation generated products that could be acquired by everybody, and not just by the wealthy. Companies used to consider it a matter of honour to produce everything themselves, but today, this attitude seems old-fashioned. The industrial society has been succeeded by the knowledge society, and technological development is now so rapid that there is no longer any point in producing everything under one roof. SA adopted this new approach a long time ago.

We want to enthral people with better sound, and this is the inspiration behind each SA speaker. There are no other speakers like them. All our speakers are assembled at our own factory in Denmark and are personally approved by members of staff, who put their signature on every single product. But the advanced acoustic, mechanical and electrical components are developed and produced by specialist companies who are world leaders based in the USA, Europe or the Far East. SA is possibly the only speaker brand that has embraced globalisation in such an ambitious way. But who is behind the technology in SA speakers? Ultimately, SA is. No speakers are like ours. The developers behind all kinds of professional studio speakers, which have played a vital role in creating the majority of your music collection, have a share in the sound of SA. The companies behind the sound on most of the world's film productions also do development work for SA. The people behind some of the world's most advanced speakers are also involved in projects for us. Even the cables inside the speakers – and the terminals on the back – are produced by companies who don't do anything else. One of the speaker industry's oldest consultants, which was founded in 1926, and which deserves a great deal of the credit for the fact that speakers exist at all, is involved in development projects for SA.

The different SA speakers all match each other in sound quality, so you can put together a home cinema that meets your needs. Our centre channel speakers are designed to be suspended from the wall, and have the same depth as a flat-screen TV. We have rear speakers that can be placed on stands, suspended from ceiling brackets or attached directly to the wall. We even offer a variety of different finishes, so you can choose whether your speakers will be discreet or will stand out from your interior decor scheme.

Small woofers have advantages over big ones, and SA passes a milestone with the W1104XL. The light membranes sound more natural, and their small diameter allows for superior distribution of the sound. Reproducing bass sound is all about the ability of the speaker to move air, and in this context, a small membrane has to work significantly harder to move the same air as a large membrane. The challenge is to increase the membrane's mobility – and W1104XL outperforms every other woofer of the same size.

where the most delicate nuances of sound are produced

· XS technology means that the waveguide around the tweeter controls the sound distribution, so that it is not reflected from the front plate and edges on the cabinet The wave guide is an advanced acoustic solution that directs sound waves away from obstacles, simplifies the electronic circuitry in the tweeter and improves the sound quality

· XS technology also ensures that the tweeter distributes sound over  a greater area than traditional tweeters. Wherever you sit in the room, or even while moving around, you'll still experience uniform sound quality. Ordinary tweeters emit the highest tones as a narrow ray, meaning that you have to sit right in front of the speaker to get the full benefit of the experience.
